Injection molds for packaging, especially cosmetics packaging, produce high profile products whose appearance helps sell them to customers. The sparkling finish and unblemished surface can only be achieved using high diamond polishing. We would always recommend an A-1 level diamond polish especially in case of highly detailed packaging parts of lipstick, mascara and compact powder cases.
It is also recommended to use flash chrome to protect that diamond finish, so the mold runs longer between maintenance checks and produces a higher number of flawless parts.
Cap moulds cycle time a key factor.
Caps for packaging, while they do contribute to shelf appeal, are approached from a slightly different angle than the cosmetics packaging discussed above. In the world of high production, multi cavity injection molds, any edge that can help reduce cycle time is seen as a tremendous advantage. This calls for good quality steel and a fast cooling system. Recommended steels would be 2316 for core and cavity and P20 for mould base. Even a small reduction in cycle time can mean a notable increase in both part quantities and profits.
